| 内容記述 | Satoyama denotes a managed rural landscape in which natural resources are sustainably utilized for the benefit of humans and other living beings. This study investigates the language used in Satoyama research with the aim of identifying distinctive linguistic features in this domain and addressing the current paucity of linguistic data on the topic. At present, linguistic research on Satoyama—particularly corpus-based work—remains limited, and this investigation represents an initial effort to redress this gap. To this end, an electronic corpus of 127 open-access, English-language articles on Satoyama was compiled and analyzed to identify recurrent linguistic patterns and field-specific idiosyncrasies. The Satoyama corpus was compared with two reference corpora: one representing general American English and another representing general Ecology. Four analytical procedures were employed: (1) word cloud, (2) two-tier keyword analysis, (3) N-gram analysis, and (4) collocate analysis. These complementary tools were selected to illuminate key concepts in Satoyama research from multiple quantitative and qualitative perspectives. The findings highlighted salient terms and collocations central to Satoyama studies, as well as linguistic features shared primarily with general Ecology. A further objective is to interrogate, through patterns of language use, the assumptions underlying Satoyama theory and practice, which advocate a harmonious and environmentally viable habitat for human and nonhuman life. While such practices may offer a relatively short-term response for regions adjacent to overpopulated and sprawling urban areas, their anthropocentric orientation—where nonhuman lives are framed primarily as resources—may ultimately hinder the realization of long-term, genuinely sustainable outcomes. |
