Using eleven differing oral care cards created for the purpose of learning about eleven varieties of oral care, subjects selected cards that identified their own oral care needs. The aim in this was to allow subjects to feel self-empowered (including self-selection, self-determination, self-management, and self-actualization). By connecting this empowerment to oral self-care at the subjects’ homes, and based off of subject’s reports, we were able to verify that subjects developed self-care habits.
